Common Core and Online PD

What do common core state standards and online teacher professional development have in common - LTF Training in a great blog post: https://www.ltftraining.org/OurProgram/LTFBlog/tabid/548/PostID/103/LTF-Training-The-List.aspx

This is the perfect storm for the right professional development.  You have a more complex set of standards that teachers must implement quickly and there is no money for teacher training.

It looks like LTF Training will be in a lot more places next summer.

I guess irony can be pretty ironic..

A classic quote from the Airplane movies and oh-so fitting in this exchange between Randi Weingarten from AFT and Andy Rotherham, Education writer for Time Magazine (in this case).

Basically Andy put out an article saying it is impossible to have a discussion of teacher issues because both sides immediately move to the extremes in chastising the other.  Weingarten responds and immediately does what Andy says - goes to extremes on the testing issue.  http://ideas.time.com/2011/10/25/randi-weingarten-responds/
Andy's response is below here response.

You really can't make this up sometimes!!!

Best Practice: Teaching Constantly Changing Velocity

Our first foray into blended learning for LTF training came out incredibly well - a really great way to  teach constantly changing velocity so that students truly understand the concept!  Check it out:

JebFest 2011!

It is not really JebFest but the National Summit on Education Reform.  But since I don't actually know anyone who calls it anything but JebFest, I decided to make the logo.  Came out nice and should actually sell the T-Shirts this week.

Going to be a great conference!

Education - moving fast

It has been a pretty incredible year in education reform.  School choice made huge gains, online education is rapidly expanding and reforms like the National Math and Science Initiative and our own Laying the Foundation are growing rapidly.

With that as the backdrop, I hit the road for JebFest2011 otherwise known as National Summit on Education.  Pretty amazing line-up of speakers addressing the majors issues in education reform with a bonus of an appearance by the Chiefs for Change.

After that, it is on to board meetings with a special announcement (coming soon), the College Board Forum, Education hearings for the Oklahoma Legislature, iNACOL and ALEC.

Going to be a very busy and productive two months! (And we will squeeze in a NAVY - SMU tailgate here in Dallas)

STEM conference

Great STEM conference for teachers fro Laying the Foundation! If we don't invest in teachers, we cannot impact STEM education.  This is a great way to improve college and career readiness in our country.
